Old Mill Park Friends

The Old Mill Park* Friends is a community group formed to actively engage in the care and stewardship of the park, in coordination with King County Parks and others. We share key values that led to the purchase of this wonderful property including protection of open space, wildlife habitat, and agricultural potential where possible – while providing for passive recreational uses. 

* The name Old Mill Park is being suggested as a substitute for “Wax Orchards Park” initially put forth, given the configuration and location of the land King County was able to acquire. We believe it best if the name helps with location identification.

Old Mill Park (identified as Wax Orchards Park in correspondence and initial planning by King County) was established in 2022.  Working together, King County leadership and dedicated staff succeeded in reaching agreement with the previous owner, combining public funds from several sources (Conservation Futures, Parks Levy funds and farmland preservation programming) to complete the purchase. Old Mill Park Friends came together to organize community involvement around important decisions affecting care and stewardship of the park, and to develop an effective working relationship with King County Parks, other community groups and an interested public around shared values.
